Editing Blog

So I wasn’t there last class to do the editing part of our project. I was actually on a Historically Black College University (HBCU) tour with my school district. Anyways, I missed the opportunity to start the editing. However, my partner informed me that the computers didn’t work anyways. He told me that Pinnacle Studios were down. I didn’t know how to take the information because I was pretty happy that I didn’t miss much of class and that I could help my partner edit. Though, at the same time  it seem like it would push the class back. Pushing the class back in my head sometimes mean closer due dates. Therefore, I am writing this blog based on the fact that we couldn’t do anything.
However, I am useful today because my account and desktop is where all our footage is located. My partner informed me that in order to fix the computers, the school was going to wipe the desktops clean. Meaning we would lose our footage is we don’t save it somewhere else. So, what i did today was dump all the footage that I have on my desktop and put it into my google drive. This way no matter what laptop we are on, we can access the footage from my email. After that, I made sure they were all saved in there because we don’t have another day where we can blog so we have to go with what we got.
Our filming didn’t go quite as planned. We were still missing parts that we wanted to include in the commercial. However, while I was away my partner filled in those blanks with footage of his own to make up for it. He did two scenes. One with him taking his jacket off and throwing it, and another with him running. This was a significant game changer. I say this because if we didn’t have this added, there was a possibility that our commercial would’ve been too short. He called himself trying to brag forgetting that I’m the one who writes our blogs. I say that we are both locked in 50/50.
I’m pretty sure that if we were allowed to edit, we would’ve tried to take care of cropping the video length and having smooth transitions. We try to prioritize our task. We wouldn’t want to work on sound and music when our video or commercial is not out together yet. All our transitions are action shots which means that each scene leads into another. I believe that sense we are doing Nike and it’s sports related, it was the most appropriate. I also feel like it is best if we want to engage our audience into really paying attention.

Filming Blog

Today’s filming was so hectic! We were suppose to film a total of 5 sports but instead we were only able to get 3 sports in. Stepping outside it seemed like it was 200 degrees. It was so hot and there was so much ripping and running. What made it worst was that we had to do so many takes of each part. Today I was both cameraman and actress. I had to be in the video for the basketball scene. My role was the catch the basketball and immediately start dribbling. Not just any dribbling though, i had to show off my sick handles. At the end of my dribbling, I had to slam the ball on the floor so it can transition to the soccer ball scene with brandon.
I then recorded brandon at his starting point with his foot on top of the ball. He had to then do tricks with the ball with his foot and kick it into the net. That part didn’t take much takes because he did really good on his first try.
The last sport we did for the day was football. We had a Fort Lauderdale football player come out to catch a football for us and score a touchdown. This was probably one of the hardest scenes. It took me forever to figure out what way was best to set the camera to catch the player catching the football. I didn’t know rather to do a close up or over the shoulder or long shot. At the end of it all I decided to go with the over the shoulder shot from the quarterback. Now for him running to score the touchdown, it would’ve been nice to do the tracking shot however we didn’t have to the right equipment. So hand held it was. He scored, did his victory dance and threw it back.
After that it was time to return the supplies and head back to the room. I was extremely exhausted and frustrated not with the work, but with the sun. When we got into the AC building, first thing I did was just sit for a while so i won’t pass out. Then I had to dump all the footage on my desktop. We were limited on SD card readers so I had to wait but I wasn’t complaining. I needed air.  Eventually we got the reader dumped all our videos in a file then saved it. Now next class , that’s where the real frustration comes in. Stay tuned !

Storyboard

For our project we are doing a Nike commercial. Our Nike commercial is sports theme and will have volleyball, basketball, baseball, soccer, and football in it. It will start with a close up angle on a volleyball with a girl hitting it against the wall. The song “Win” by Jay Rock will start playing in the background. As she is digging the ball, the camera will slowly zoom out. When she spikes the ball, it will be caught by girl basketball player and the ball will transfer into a basketball. She will then show off her sick handles. The music at this point is louder. This will be a medium shot. When she is done dribbling, she will place the basketball aggressively on the ground. At this point the ball will turn into a soccer ball. In this stage the camera is at a high level. The soccer player foot be placed on the ball and he will perform some tricks with the ball before kicking into a goal. Except it won’t actually go into the goal. While it’s in the air, it will change into a football. A football player will then catch the football from the air then run to score a touchdown. You will hear a crowd cheering in the background. This will be a pan shot. When he scores, he will do his victory dance and toss the ball back. The ball that gets tossed will turn into the baseball. This last scene will be a medium-close up. The baseball player will then hit the baseball ball. As soon as the bat connects with the ball, the screen will go black but you will still hear the pop sound when the ball hit the bat. All of these transitions are action shots. Then black screen will then bring in the Nike sign & the quote “find your will”. The music will be especially loud on this screen. This will show the emphasis on the message of the commercial. Nike supports and is available for all sports. All filming will be outside therefore the lighting will be bright. I believe the variety of genders and pumping music will be the factors to make this commercial great.

Editing Blog

Today we learned how to edit our footage film on Pinnacle Studios. We learned about key vocabulary words like dumping, import, export, and rendering. Dumping is the process where you take all the footage from the camera or SD card and put it in your profile folder on the desktop. You do this because to be on the safe side just in case you lose the footage in your SD card it will all be saved on your desktop. In the files under DCIM will be all your pictures you took for that day. If any of it was to be lost, you can go to “private” click on AVCHD then stream, then all the pictures on the card will be on there.
Now, when you click into Pinnacle Studios a lot of advertisements will pop up but disregard them all by pressing the “X” button. If a video is already there you can just go to the top and click “New Movie” and it will clear everything. You then go to “Edit” to import all your footage from your folder by clicking “import”. After clicking you will the desktop profile where you will click the plus sign to see all your footages. Make sure the videos you will like to attach have a orange check mark by them to indicate that they will be imported. At the end you see the start button to officially begin editing. You will see your raw footage pop up on the screen and then you would have to highlight all of them and drag them to AV2. It’s important that’s it’s in AV2 because that’s reserved for all film. AV1 is where you import any titles and AV3 is where you import any music, sounds, and voiceovers. The detach audio you right click the mouse and click detach sound. By right clicking, you can also speed up the films, slow down the films, and reverse the films. Make sure you click the videos in the order you which you want them to be presented. Also it is VERY important that when you place all your videos in AV2 that you wait for it to fully load or Pinnacle Studios may shut down.
To cut any videos, you go the icon that look like a razed blade which represent split clip. You simply highlight the part or footage you would like to be removed and take it out. To import a Title, there will be a “T” for text that you will click. It will pop out as a title like screen where you can type anything you and and place it in AV1. The editing always allows you to do cool transitions, lighting, and effects. To export means your saving it and taking it out of pinnacle. Rendering it makes it smooth and takes out all the gaps. Minimize it and make sure your actually save it in your file before you close out of Pinnacle Studios. Whoever profile you are under when you edit is the person profile that has to log into EVERYDAY !!

Planning Blog

So today we are planning what we shall do for our commercial. It's somewhat difficult to decide because we have so many cool ideas that we are trying to squish into a 30-second video. I believe that what we do decide to go with will be very unique and attention-grabbing because of its shortness and music.
Our commercial is sports-themed for Nike so we will use sports balls and equipment as our props. We plan on using a basketball player, baseball player, volleyball player, football player, and soccer player. Each of them will be dressed in their appropriate uniform attire for their particular sport. On the 15th we plan on picking the appropriate location with good lightening to film to sports stars making their moves. On the 17th we will decide on the music and editing designs to make the views engage with the commercial. On the 19th we will make sure all of our actors are still on board and will be there for the shot and make the weather is up to par. Finally, on the 22, that's where the magic happens and filming begins. We will film on the football field, by the stairs, and on the softball field.
If our ideas do not go as planned (like if it rains), then we will record everything in front of the stairs where the wingspan of the view is nice and plentiful.

So today we are working on our commercials and decided to go with Nike. Depending on the theme behind the Nike commercial, the setting is different. In most Nike commercials, they were advertising a sport in Nike apparel. This shows that the brand support supports both sports and physical appearance. In most recent years, Nike has expanded not only apparel but their ethics. This influenced us to make our commercial based off the "Nike is for everyone" motto.

For our commercial we will follow this theme and advertise a sports centered idea. In most Nike commercials there's always an inspirational theme and sound in the back. They use a current hype song used typically when people need to get pumped or is working out. This makes their video fun and interesting.

Their props are sports related and the lighting is usually standard unless their filming at night or in a building. This suggest that hard works pays off, and that Nike will help get you there. They gear their brand to people of all ages, ethnicity, gender, and social economic status. In recent years they did commercials on equality of all in any sports. This is why they co-found many other companies like Air Jordan, Converse, and Hurley.

Yo! This is me, the coolest cat you know. This is pretty weird because usually I write down what's been going on and how I feel in my journal but I guess for this class, this will be my technical journal. Um, whats up? i guess i should start with the basics. I'm short, like very short: 5 foot to be exact. Some of you may say 5 foot is not that bad, but when when your 5 foot and turning 18 as a senior in high school, it has its backfires. Many freshman's are taller than me and waiters still ask me if i want a kids menu at restaurants like i'm not about to be grown. LOL. However, i love my size. It really defines me and makes it easy to maneuver through this mass world. Oh, i play basketball too. I've been a point guard since 2nd grade but been playing since age 5. Am i good? I mean i'm not a cocky person, but i'm pretty decent for a person my size. I love basketball man, its a great feeling being able to step on the court and score and make a difference.
Me personally, i'm very chill yet goofy at the same time. I know there's a time and place for everything so i make sure i'm goofy at appropriate times. My friends describe me as funny and friendly. ill admit i'm pretty friendly because i feel like everybody deserve to feel recognized, but i don't really do people like that. What i mean is, i don't really like being around a lot of people and in the mix because usually problems occur. i mind my business for the most part unless it's someone close to me. That's what people love about me, i don't try to get involve and follow the leader, i just smile and keep it moving. i'm the friend you would want to take around your family. i'm highly respectful and a cool person. I guess. I like being alone too, especially home. Being home alone, is so peaceful and relaxing, i think its one of my favorite settings.
If i'm not playing basketball, i'm probably eating. I'm only 108 pounds but i eat like a pig. Amount wise that is. I eat a lot omg, food is so amazing. Um, i'm stylist. I would say i'm a trend setter on fashion. I love wearing and having stuff that no one else has ever seen. I dress like a tomboy 60% of the time. Oh yeah, by the way i'm  girl if you couldn't tell LOL. But anyways, yeah i have a lot of sneakers, i love sneakers. This generation think things have to be expensive in order for you to dress nice, but honestly i get a lot of compliments on my attire and they don't even close to expensive. Its not about the price tag, its about how you wear it. The confidence and fit. People know the price of everything and value of nothing. But that's all for today because my brain hurt and my fingers tired. Until next time.

Journal 7 - Based on Field trip 5 - Downtown Fort Myers

Due to a family vacation that was already set in place, I could not participate in this field trip. This is a complete bummer because I rea...
